Former U.S. President Trump revealed that NVIDIA and AMD would pay 15% of their AI semiconductor sales revenue in China to the U.S. government. In return for this payment, NVIDIA and AMD were allowed to resume exporting some AI semiconductors to China.
This decision to permit the export of certain AI semiconductors was related to China's easing of restrictions on rare earth exports. As a condition for allowing the resumption of exports, the U.S. government required NVIDIA and AMD to pay 15% of their AI semiconductor sales revenue in China, which both companies accepted.
