Sony Semiconductor Launches New High-Speed, High-Resolution CIS for Industrial Applications

Sony Semiconductor Solutions has introduced a new groundbreaking product for the industrial equipment sector: the IMX927 stacked CMOS image sensor. This back-illuminated sensor, equipped with a global shutter function, achieves an outstanding combination of approximately 105 megapixels effective resolution and a maximum high-speed output of 100 frames per second.
At the core of this innovation is Sony's proprietary global shutter technology, "Pregius S." This advanced technology ensures high-quality imaging with minimal noise and, crucially, completely eliminates motion distortion, which is vital for capturing fast-moving objects accurately. Furthermore, optimized sensor driving efficiency contributes to its exceptional high-speed output capabilities.
The launch of the IMX927 directly addresses the escalating demand for high-speed, high-resolution vision cameras, particularly as factory automation accelerates. This sensor is poised to revolutionize industrial processes by enabling significant time reduction in measurement and inspection stages, facilitating high-resolution photography of large subjects, and opening up new possibilities in advanced 3D inspection.
To further simplify integration and maintenance, Sony has also commercialized seven additional variants with different characteristics. Alongside these eight total sensor types, a newly developed ceramic package with a connector is introduced. This design innovation significantly streamlines the process of attaching and detaching the sensor during camera design, contributing to more efficient camera assembly and sensor replacement operations. The IMX927 is set to be a key enabling technology for the next generation of smart factory and industrial automation solutions.
