In 2025, the South Korean semiconductor equipment industry demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth, driven primarily by the global explosion in demand for Artificial Intelligence technologies. According to recent industry reports, the collective performance of 25 major South Korean semiconductor equipment manufacturers highlighted a significant upward trend in profitability.
While total revenue for these 25 companies reached 13.53 trillion Korean Won, representing a modest 0.8 percent increase year-over-year, the more telling metric was the operating profit. The sector achieved a combined operating profit of 1.24 trillion Korean Won, a substantial 29 percent increase compared to the previous year. This growth is largely attributed to the urgent need for high-performance memory solutions, particularly High Bandwidth Memory, and the escalating demand for next-generation Dynamic Random Access Memory chips.
Among the 25 companies surveyed, 12 reported both revenue and profit growth. Key players stood out during this period: SEMES recorded revenue of 2.47 trillion Korean Won, a 1 percent increase, with operating profit surging by 78 percent to 215.8 billion Korean Won. Similarly, Wonik IPS saw its revenue climb by 22 percent to 909.8 billion Korean Won, while its operating profit experienced a massive 6.9-fold increase, reaching 73.9 billion Korean Won.
