SK hynix Accelerates AI Supercycle with Massive 100 Trillion Won NAND and Advanced Packaging Investment in Cheongju

SK hynix has officially unveiled a historic investment plan totaling approximately 100 trillion won to drastically expand its semiconductor manufacturing footprint in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province. This massive initiative is specifically designed to address the soaring global demand for artificial intelligence memory solutions and enterprise solid state drives, anchoring South Korea as a pivotal powerhouse in the global semiconductor ecosystem.

Out of the total capital expenditure, 80 trillion won will be aggressively allocated to the construction of M17, a state of the art front end manufacturing fabrication plant dedicated to producing next generation NAND flash memory. Construction for the M17 facility is scheduled to break ground next year, with the explicit goal of commencing full scale commercial operations in the first half of 2029. Simultaneously, 20 trillion won will be designated for the P and T 7 facility, a highly specialized advanced packaging plant intended to accelerate the back end processing of advanced high bandwidth memory products. The P and T 7 packaging facility is slated for completion by the end of 2027, integrating seamlessly with the adjacent manufacturing lines to achieve unmatched production velocity and logistics efficiency.

Furthermore, SK Group is strategically connecting this hardware expansion with a colossal computing infrastructure network. The conglomerate plans to build a nationwide network of artificial intelligence data centers totaling 15 gigawatts in capacity across South Korea. As a foundational step in this overarching strategy, a massive 1 gigawatt class artificial intelligence data center cluster will be established directly within the Chungcheong region. By colocating next generation NAND fabrication plants, advanced packaging facilities, and high performance computing ecosystems, SK Group aims to create a fully integrated vertical ecosystem capable of driving the global artificial intelligence boom.
