AI data center optoelectronics demand is significantly influencing the financial outcomes for companies like SAMCO Inc. This Kyoto-based semiconductor manufacturing specialist achieved record-breaking financial results for the fiscal year ended July 2026, primarily driven by the surging demand for optoelectronic devices within artificial intelligence data centers.

During this period, net sales soared to 10.8 billion yen, marking a 16 percent increase compared to the previous year. The company's operating income also saw a substantial rise of 28 percent, reaching 3.042 billion yen. This impressive performance was largely attributed to the optoelectronics sector, which has been fueled by the rapid expansion of high-performance computing clusters and cloud data centers. As a result, there is an unprecedented need for optical transceivers.

As data communication rates approach next-generation speeds, semiconductor fabrication facilities are intensifying their investments in precision dry etching and plasma chemical vapor deposition equipment. These technologies are essential for manufacturing compound semiconductors like indium phosphide and gallium arsenide. This transition has resulted in a flood of new contracts for SAMCO, with total order intake jumping by 88 percent to 17.1 billion yen by the end of the fiscal year.

The company's backlog orders have also shown remarkable growth, expanding more than twofold over the previous year to a total of 11.5 billion yen. This not only secures revenue visibility for the coming quarters but also underlines the structural growth of optical interconnect manufacturing.

Looking forward, SAMCO has provided an ambitious forecast for the fiscal year ending July 2027, projecting net sales of 14.5 billion yen and operating income of 3.88 billion yen. Moreover, the management has revised its medium-term business targets up until July 2029 to 18.0 billion yen in net sales and 4.88 billion yen in operating income. The indispensable role of high-speed optical transceivers and compound semiconductors in artificial intelligence hardware infrastructure gives SAMCO a strong position to continue its upward trend.
