Wolfspeed has officially announced the launch of two new three point three kilovolt Silicon Carbide power modules, designed to significantly enhance efficiency and power density in high-voltage applications. The new lineup includes an industry-standard footprint high-power half-bridge module featuring a baseplate, and a scalable full-bridge module without a baseplate.
This technological breakthrough allows power system designers to reduce the number of power stages and transition seamlessly to two-level topologies for direct current link voltages exceeding two kilovolts. By offering both baseplate and baseplate-less options, Wolfspeed provides unprecedented flexibility for next-generation power electronics.
The half-bridge module, utilizing the LM platform, is engineered for high-power applications exceeding eight hundred amperes. It is fully optimized for demanding converter systems, including solar energy systems, grid energy storage, and wind power installations. On the other hand, the baseplate-less full-bridge module focuses heavily on modularity and scalability. This design flexibly supports multi-level, series, or parallel configurations, making it the ideal choice for solid-state transformers and rapidly expanding renewable energy infrastructures worldwide. As global investments in clean energy systems accelerate, these high-voltage Silicon Carbide components are set to replace traditional silicon-based insulated-gate bipolar transistors, offering lower switching losses and higher operating frequencies.
