Tanaka Precious Metals has officially inaugurated Japan's largest private pure hydrogen fuel cell power generation facility at its Shonan Plant. Representing a significant investment of two point six billion yen, the newly operational TANAKA H2 Nexus facility marks a milestone in deep industrial decarbonization. High-energy industrial manufacturing relies heavily on uninterrupted grid electricity, but this facility establishes a robust onsite clean energy baseline using pure hydrogen.
The installation incorporates advanced polymer electrolyte fuel cell technology manufactured by Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions Corporation. By leveraging Tanaka's proprietary noble metal catalyst engineering, particularly refined platinum group catalysts optimized for hydrogen oxidation and oxygen reduction, the system achieves an exceptional fifty percent electrical efficiency and a total energy efficiency of ninety-five percent when combined heat and power systems are utilized.
Delivering five hundred kilowatts of continuous power output, the unit supplies thirty-four percent of the Shonan facility's total electrical consumption while cutting carbon dioxide emissions by twenty-six percent annually. Designed with strategic modularity, the architecture accommodates future capacity expansion up to two thousand kilowatts. This technology roadmap is integral to achieving the company's interim target of significant carbon dioxide reduction by twenty-thirty, providing a scalable blueprint for zero-emission advanced electronics and precious metals processing.
