ROHM and Tata Electronics Strategic Partnership

ROHM and Tata Electronics Strategic Partnership

Japan's leading semiconductor manufacturer, ROHM, has officially announced a strategic partnership with Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of India's massive Tata Group. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the global semiconductor supply chain, specifically focusing on establishing a robust back-end production system within India. The primary goal is to achieve mass production and shipment by the end of 2026.
Strengthening the "Make in India" Initiative
Tata Electronics, established in 2020, has been at the forefront of India's push for domestic semiconductor independence. The company is currently constructing a large-scale front-end wafer fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat, and a state-of-the-art assembly and test (back-end) facility in Jagiroad, Assam. This partnership with ROHM will leverage Tata's developing infrastructure to manufacture cutting-edge power semiconductors, a critical component for the automotive and industrial sectors.
Strategic Synergy
ROHM brings its world-class expertise in power device technology, including Silicon Carbide and Silicon power devices, while Tata Electronics contributes its growing manufacturing capabilities and local market dominance. This move follows Tata's existing collaborations with other Japanese tech giants like Tokyo Electron and Fujifilm, signaling a deepening technological bond between Japan and India.
Future Outlook
The initial phase will focus on the back-end processing of power semiconductors. By localizing this critical step, both companies aim to reduce geopolitical supply chain risks and cater to the rapidly growing demand for electric vehicles and electronic manufacturing services in the Indian market.
