Samsung Electronics has officially announced the mass production of its latest enterprise solid-state drive, the PM1763, specifically engineered to power high-performance artificial intelligence and high-performance computing server environments.As large language models and deep learning frameworks scale at an unprecedented rate, rapid data transmission between processors, graphics processing units, and storage tiers has become a critical bottleneck.The PM1763 solves this challenge by leveraging the high-bandwidth PCIe 6.0 interface paired with Samsung's advanced ninth-generation vertical NAND flash memory and an energy-efficient 4-nanometer proprietary controller architecture.
Available in capacities of 4 terabytes, 8 terabytes, and 16 terabytes, the flagship 16-terabyte configuration sets a new benchmark in storage speed.It delivers sequential read speeds of up to 28,400 megabytes per second and sequential write speeds reaching 21,900 megabytes per second. This doubles the throughput of the previous-generation PCIe 5.0 PM1753 drive, allowing a massive 40-gigabyte large language model weight file to transfer in approximately 1.4 seconds. Consequently, data latency across training nodes is dramatically reduced, accelerating overall system efficiency.
To satisfy the demanding thermal requirements of dense AI clusters, the PM1763 is fully optimized for direct-to-chip liquid cooling environments. This design maintains sustained peak throughput even under prolonged, ultra-heavy operational loads while delivering an energy efficiency boost of over 1.8 times compared to its predecessor.Enterprise-grade security is also elevated with post-quantum cryptography algorithms to protect critical data against future quantum computing attacks, Alongside TEE Device Interface Security Protocol for robust hardware isolation in virtualized cloud environments.
