Japanese technology leader Maxell has unveiled a comprehensive growth strategy for its energy business, focusing heavily on the expansion and production reinforcement of its revolutionary all-solid-state batteries and primary batteries. The company has set ambitious financial targets, aiming for over 53 billion yen in revenue by fiscal year 2026, with a mid-to-long term goal of exceeding 100 billion yen.
In a significant milestone, Maxell commenced the mass production of its proprietary ceramic-packaged all-solid-state batteries in 2023. These cutting-edge power sources were initially adopted for use in Nikon's high-precision multi-turn absolute encoders, a critical component in industrial automation and robotics. This initial success has paved the way for broader adoption across diverse sectors.
Maxell's all-solid-state batteries have since been integrated into power modules at several high-profile manufacturing sites, including Maxell Frontier, Subaru's Gunma Oizumi Plant, and Kyocera's Kagoshima Sendai Plant. Furthermore, numerous major players in the automotive and medical device industries have also adopted this technology. These power modules integrate the all-solid-state battery with necessary peripheral circuitry to function as reliable, maintenance-free backup power sources.
One of the key advantages of Maxell's all-solid-state technology is its exceptional longevity. While general primary batteries typically require replacement every 1 to 2 years, Maxell's all-solid-state batteries offer a lifespan of 10 years or longer. This drastic increase in service life significantly reduces maintenance overhead and associated costs for industrial operators, ensuring uninterrupted performance and enhanced reliability in critical applications. As industries globally transition toward smarter, more automated systems, the demand for such high-performance, long-lasting energy solutions is expected to grow exponentially, reinforcing Maxell's strategic expansion.
